WHEELING, Ill. July 17, 2013 – Empirical multi-channel marketing company, SG360º has released the results of its 2013 Back-To-School Shopping Survey. The survey was done in conjunction with Leo J. Shapiro & Associates’ quarterly national poll regarding consumer spending and behaviors.
The response data in the SG360º Back-to-School Report was pulled specifically from families across the United States with school-aged children (5-17 years old).
The results of the survey indicate that 86% of households with children are likely to shop for back-to-school before the next school year begins. More telling is that almost 90% of households with children ranging from 5-13 years old plan to shop before school starts.
Of all the channels available, direct mail was called out as one of the top two motivators for deciding when, where and what to shop for.
- Store sales and specials are the key call-to-action motivators to begin this process.
- Direct mail offers and newspaper ads are the two key channels for driving this motivation.
- Specific offers and sales are the number one influencing factor in deciding specifically where to shop.
- Households with more than one school aged child were almost twice as likely to shop for back-to-school than households with only one.
