Celebrate the Season with new Madonna of the Candelabra by Raphael Stamp

Decorate holiday correspondence with a stamp that pays tribute to a masterpiece with the Madonna of the Candelabra by Raphael Forever® stamp from the U.S. Postal Service. The traditional Christmas stamp for 2011, this stamp features the Madonna and Child portrayed in the Madonna of the Candelabra painting. MACtac® supplied the pressure-sensitive adhesive label materials for 600 million of the 44-cent first-class stamps issued.

In 1508, Raphael, born Raffaello Sanzio, was summoned by Pope Julius II to Rome, where he spent the last years of his life inspired by bursts of activity. The masterpieces he produced there, including the painting reproduced in this stamp, date to around 1513. Richard Sheaff served as the art director for this stamp issuance.

“The artwork featured in the Madonna of the Candelabra by Raphael stamp celebrates the reason for the Christmas holiday,” said Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products. “MACtac is delighted to supply the label stock for a stamp that commemorates this joyous celebration.”

The Madonna of the Candelabra by Raphael stamp is being issued in books of 20 self-adhesive Forever stamps. The stamps may be purchased at local post offices, at the postal store website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24.

Kick off the Festival of Lights with New Hanukkah Stamp

Add a little glow to the Festival of Lights this year with the new Hanukkah stamp from the U.S. Postal Service. Designed to commemorate the annual Festival of Lights celebrated by Jewish people around the world, the stamp art features letters spelling out the word "Hanukkah" backed by eight colorful shapes, symbolizing the eight days and nights of the celebration. MACtac® supplied the pressure-sensitive adhesive label materials for 25 million of the 44-cent first-class Forever® stamps issued.

This year, Hanukkah begins on Dec. 20. During the festival, family members gather each night to light candles on a menorah. Other Hanukkah traditions include singing, the exchange of gifts and the spinning of a four-sided top called a dreidel.

Art director Ethel Kessler worked with illustrator Suzanne Kleinwaks on the new stamp design, which features bright colors to express the spirit of the holiday. Each of the letters in the design is tilted to mimic the movement of the dreidel as it spins and the second “k” appears on the silhouette of a dreidel.

“MACtac is delighted to supply the label stock for the Hanukkah stamp making the celebration of Hanukkah brighter for card senders and recipients alike,” said Allison Hazel, marketing manager, MACtac Printing Products.

The Hanukkah stamp is available in panes of 20 self-adhesive Forever stamps. The stamps may be purchased at local post offices, at the postal store website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24.
